Abstract
The overall objectives of this Act are (I) establishment of a legal and administrative framework to promote tourism development; (II) establishment and empowerment of the Corporation to carry out and promote the sustainable development of tourism through effective planning and promotion; and (III) public participation in the development of tourism policies and the resolution of issues arising as a result of tourism development. This Act lays down provisions on the establishment, duties and authorities of the Nauru Tourism Corporation; directions of the Minister to the Corporation; structure of the Board of Directors; qualifications, responsibilities and duties of directors; account keeping and reporting; funds and audit of the Corporation; and the appointment and responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer. This Act stresses on the provision of sustainable socio-economic benefit of all stakeholders; conservation and management of natural, social and cultural resources, biodiversity and the environment; and international or regional commitments in particular relating to ecotourism and Blue Ocean Strategy. The Cabinet may make regulations prescribing all matters necessary or convenient to be prescribed for giving effect to this Act.
