Abstract
This Ordinance contains provisions regulating matters affecting public health in Niue, including: the manufacture and sale of food, sanitation of buildings and surrounding land and water supply.
The Chief Medical Officer shall be charged with the administration of this Ordinance. The Ordinance makes provision for the appointment of Inspectors of Health and Food Inspectors. Part VI provides for the registration and control of food premises and for the control of the handling of food including the manufacture, preparation, storage, packing, carriage or delivery of food for sale and the retail sale of food. The Ordinance prescribes requirements for persons that handle food and for food premises with regard to hygiene, construction and equipment. Requirements are also prescribed for specific classes of food premises. Some provisions concern the sale of unwholesome food and unlawful handling of food.
Part VII provides for sanitary requirements of dwellings and buildings. Some provisions concern the keeping of animals near to buildings. Closing Orders and Demolition Orders may also be applied to food premises.
Part IX provides for the protection and control of water supply for domestic purposes.
