Abstract
This Act amends the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
Amendments include: changes to the fines for offences listed in section 25 and section 37(a); the substitution of section 28 with a new section on wilful ill-treatment of animals; insertion of a new section 28A on the reckless ill-treatment of animals; substitution of section 169 with a new section on powers of the court to disqualify persons from owning or exercising authority in respect of animals; insertion of new sections 169A and 169B on applications to court for removal or variation of disqualifications; and word changes to section 172 on powers of the court to order that certain animals be forfeited to the Crown.
