Abstract
An Act to make extensive amendments to the 1996 Act. Section 11 is amended so as to require the Minister to take into account fisheries or conservation services or fisheries plan in setting or varying a sustainable ,measure under part II of the principal Act. In accordance with the new section 11A Minister may from time to time approve, amend, or revoke a fisheries plan.
Other amendments of the principal Act concern, inter alia, allocation of catch quotas, catch history, registration, legal proceedings, and total allowable catch.

Sections 17 to 21 come into force on 1 October 1999; the other provisions of this Act come into force on a date to be appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council; and 1 or more Orders in Council may be made appointing different dates for different provisions and for different purposes.
