Abstract
Part IIB added to the Fisheries Act 1983 by this Act establishes a quota management system for scallops in Southern Scallop Fishery. The annual allowable catch in respect of scallops for the Southern Scallop Fishery is that specified in Part III of Schedule 1D to this Act. The Director-General shall ensure that there is maintained in respect of the Southern Scallop Fishery a register in accordance with section 28ZR.
The Maori Fisheries Act is amended by in relation with allocation of a quota for Southern Scallop Fishery as received by the Commission pursuant to 28Zk of the Fisheries Act 1983.

An Act: (a) to make better provision for the enhancement and management of the Southern Scallop Fishery; and (b) to make better provision for the recognition of Maori fishing rights; and (c) to facilitate the entry of Maori into, and the development by Maori of, the business and activity of fishing; and (d) to amend the Fisheries Act 1983 and the Maori Fisheries Act 1989.
