Abstract
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999. This notice declares the area described in clause 3 to be a mātaitai reserve (to be known as Te Ahi Tarakihi Mātaitai Reserve). The reserve is located in South Island fisheries waters to the north of Timaru. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua. A mātaitai reserve is an identified traditional fishing ground managed by the tangata whenua through Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki. Commercial fishing is generally prohibited in a mātaitai reserve (with exceptions specified in regulation 24 of the regulations).
