Abstract
These Regulations are intended to give effect to the Convention for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna to which New Zealand, Australia, and Japan are parties.
The Regulations impose a quota on southern bluefin tuna and apply to tuna taken by commercial fishers within New Zealand fisheries waters, and New Zealand citizens and New Zealand vessels within the high seas, for the purposes of sale. The regulations also specify annual catch limits for each fishing year, provide for the closure of the fishery when the quota in a fishing year has been or is about to be reached, and provide for offences for breaches of the regulations.
