Abstract
This notice is issued by the Environmental Protection Authority under section 74 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. It is issued in accordance with section 76C of the Act, having had regard to the matters specified in section 76C(2). The objective of this notice, together with the Hazardous Substances (Classification) Notice, is to carry over the classification system for hazardous substances established prior to the enactment of this notice. It regulates the following matters: Substances not considered hazardous; Medicines; Food; Psychoactive substances; and Minimum degrees of hazard. The six Schedules in particular specify the following aspects: Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with explosive properties; Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with flammable properties; Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with oxidising properties; Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with toxic properties; Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with corrosive properties; Minimum degrees of hazard for substances with ecotoxic properties.
