Abstract
This Strategy is Aotearoa New Zealand's strategic framework aimed at achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. The Strategy outlines comprehensive policies and actions across various sectors, including energy, transport, agriculture, and forestry, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance carbon sequestration. It emphasizes the importance of equitable transitions, honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnerships, and fostering innovation and sustainable economic growth. The plan also sets interim emissions budgets to ensure measurable progress towards the 2050 targets. The Strategy aims to swiftly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen carbon sinks to meet domestic emissions reduction targets. The vision of the Strategy is to create a sustainable, low-emission future where Aotearoa New Zealand thrives within environmental limits. It envisions a climate-resilient economy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, enhances carbon sinks, and fosters innovation, equity, and well-being for all communities while upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments.
