Abstract
This Act, consisting of 2 Parts and three Schedules, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the New Zealand Tourism Board. The New Zealand Tourism Board’s object is to ensure that New Zealand is so marketed as a visitor destination as to maximise long-term benefits to New Zealand. Its functions are: (a) to develop, implement, and promote strategies for tourism; and (b) to advise the Government and the New Zealand tourism industry on matters relating to the development, implementation, and promotion of those strategies. It is divided as follows: New Zealand Tourism Board (I); Abolition of New Zealand Tourism Department (II); Schedules deal with: Other provisions applying to New Zealand Tourism Board; Consequential amendments and Repeals.
The Act also establishes the Ministry for Environment and defines its composition. Functions of the Ministry include: advise the Minister on all aspects of environmental administration, including policies for influencing the management of natural and physical resources and ecosystems, significant environmental impacts of public or private sector proposals, ways of ensuring that effective provision is made for public participation in environmental planning and policy formulation processes in order to assist decision-making; advise the Government, its agencies, and other public authorities on procedures for the assessment and monitoring of environmental impacts, pollution control, natural hazards and hazardous substances; and provide and disseminate information and services to environmental policies.

Entry into force notes
This Act shall come into force on 1 November 1991.
