Radiation Protection Act 1965 (No. 23 of 1965).

The purpose of this Act, consisting of 33 sections and one Schedule, is to protect the people of New Zealand from unnecessary exposure to harmful radiation by restricting the use of ionising sources to those qualified and competent persons who hold a current licence issued by the Director-General of Health and by providing for the notification of all sales of irradiating apparatus.
The Act provides for the establishment of a Radiation Protection Advisory Council consisting primarily of independent radiation experts, to advise the Minister and the Ministry on any aspects of policy or administration of Act.
The Act further provides for: requirements and procedures for obtaining a licence; classification of licences; notice of appeals; offences; regulation making powers of the Governor-General; etc.
