Resource Management (National Environmental Standards for Commercial Forestry) Regulations 2017.

These Regulations establish a nationwide environmental management framework for commercial forestry activities in New Zealand pursuant to the Resource Management Act 1991. They regulate a broad range of forestry operations, including afforestation, replanting, land preparation, earthworks, river crossings, harvesting, quarrying and slash management, through activity classifications, technical standards, management planning requirements and environmental protection measures. The Regulations contain provisions relevant to sustainable forest management, soil and land conservation, watershed protection, biodiversity conservation, erosion and sediment control, and the protection of wetlands, water bodies and coastal environments. They also incorporate risk assessment tools, operational controls and safeguards for indigenous bird habitats, while assigning monitoring and enforcement responsibilities to local authorities. The Regulations further prescribe procedural requirements, including notification obligations, management plan specifications, mapping standards and compliance mechanisms to ensure environmentally sustainable forestry practices.
