Abstract
This Act is composed of 17 sections and one Schedule, dealing mainly with the creation of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, its functions, duties and powers (sects. 3-9). Relevant sections: section 10 states that the Minister shall provide for the use of uniform units and standards of measurement of physical quantities throughout New Zealand. Rights to inventions made by any employee of the Department are attributed automatically to the Crown (sect. 12). For example, the Crown shall be deemed to be the breeder of all new plant varieties. All patents and grants for plant selectors' rights shall be granted to the New Zealand Government Property Corporation.
