Abstract
The Act aims to expedite recovery and rebuilding efforts following severe weather events. This law provides the government with special powers to facilitate efficient and rapid responses, including the ability to override existing legal requirements that might hinder swift recovery actions. It includes measures for streamlining regulatory processes, providing financial support, and ensuring coordinated efforts across various government agencies and stakeholders to restore affected communities and infrastructure. It establishes a Severe Weather Events Recovery Review Panel, comprising up to 12 members with relevant knowledge and skills to support the Act's functions. The Act outlines a process for engaging with stakeholders and the public regarding proposed orders, allowing for feedback and comments within a specified timeframe. The Act further provides amendments on Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009. The text consists of 4 Parts as follow: Preliminary provisions (1); Orders in Council (2); Amendments to other legislations (3); Reporting on and repeal of this Act (4).
