Abstract
This Act, consisting of 6 Parts and one Schedule, specifies the registration requirements to be satisfied by any ship navigating within the waters under the jurisdiction of New Zealand. It is divided as follows: Ships required or entitled to be registered (I); Registration of ships (II); Transfers, transmissions, and mortgages of ships (III); Nationality and national colours (IV); Administration (V); and Miscellaneous provisions (VI).
Part II specifies all the conditions to be met, such as: Applications for registration; Declaration of ownership and nationality; Evidence required before registration; Tonnage measurement of ship required before registration; Power to disallow proposed name and to allow change of name; Appeals from decisions under section; Application for reservation of name; Ship to be marked before registration; Entry of particulars in Part A of Register; Entry of particulars in Part B of Register; Registration of property in ships; Certificates of registry and registration, provisional certificates of registry, and temporary passes Grant of certificates of registry and registration; Particulars of master to be endorsed on certificate of registry of ship leaving New Zealand; Custody of certificates; Replacement certificates; Grant of provisional certificate of registry or registration; Duration of provisional certificates of registry or registration; Temporary passes; Alterations to ships, changes in ownership, etc. to be notified to Registrar; Alterations to ships; Change of name or address or nationality of owner or mortgagee Closure of registration; Closure of registration; Rights of mortgagees where ship ceases to be registrable.
