Abstract
These Regulations provide rules relative to fishing for whitebait in New Zealand. These Regulations shall apply to all waters and places throughout New Zealand but not to waters and places to which the Whitebait Fishing (West Coast) Regulations 1994 apply.
The Regulations provide for: closed seasons and closed areas for whitebait fishing; restrictions on net mesh sizes; and fishing gear restrictions.
The Regulations further prohibit the possession of whitebait together with any whitebait net that is not permitted to be used.
In addition, the Regulations provide: that the regulations do not apply to whitebait taken for a hui or tangi; that whitebait taken unlawfully shall be returned to the waters from which they have been taken; and for offences and penalties.
