Abstract
These Regulations provide rules relative to fishing for whitebait in the West Coast. These Regulations shall apply to all waters and places on the West Coast of the South Island from Heaphy Bluff to Puysegur Point.
The Regulations provide for: closed seasons and closed areas for whitebait fishing; restrictions on net mesh sizes; and fishing gear restrictions.
The Regulations further prohibit the possession of whitebait together with a whitebait net that is not permitted to be used but they shall not apply to whitebait taken for a hui or tangi.
In addition, the Regulations contain two Schedules listing rivers where special conditions apply and rivers on which yellow markers to indicate the upper limit for whitebait fishing are to be located.
