Ministerial Decree No.194 of 2001 establishing the Water Supply Well Field Protection Zones in al Sharqiyah Governorate.

This Decree consisting of 5 articles and four Annexes aims at establishing the Water Supply well field Protection Zones in A'Sharqiyah Region in the Wilayat of Sur and Ibra which are illustrated in the attached maps in Annex 1. The purpose of these zones is to develop water resources as well as protect them and public water supply well fields against pollution, over abstraction and intrusion of saline water. Each Region is to be divided into three areas each determined according to the co-ordinates given in Annex 2. Activities and works should be carried out in accordance with the regulations given in the Annex 4. The extent of permission to practice activities and works in the protected Regions are indicated in Annex 3.
The Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources shall issue Decisions to form a Working Committee to carry out the necessary work to achieve the aims of determining the protected zones mentioned in article 1 (art. 4). This Committee shall take all necessary actions to remove any obstacles which may affect the safety of the groundwater and fulfill the conditions of protecting water resources in the determined Regions. The Committee may form sub-committees to carry out specific works. It should also raise a report to the Minister every four months.
