Abstract
The amendment of the Mining Regulation adds some articles to the principal text concerning the contribution due to the community establishing that the licensee must pay a financial sum of (1%) one percent of the total annual production of the ore that he exploits to contribute to the development of the local community in the state where the area licensed for exploitation is located. Thesubsequent articles define some details, among the others (i) the Ministry shall be responsible for calculating and collecting these contributions and then transferring them to the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry also maintains a register of contributions by licensees; (ii) the community contributions are to be used for specific purposes, including sustainable projects, social initiatives, youth activities, public service projects, and environmental and community health projects. The funds are not to be spent on personal or tribal requests, official celebrations, banquets, or social events; (iii) the disbursement of community contributions is monitored and audited by governors' offices; (iv) the Ministry is also responsible for publishing data and reports on community contributions, and licensees can obtain data on their contributions for publication on their websites with coordination from the Ministry.
