Abstract
This Royal Decree consists of 6 articles and one Annex.
Article 1 establishes the Muscat Governorate Water Supply Well Field Protection Zones in the Wilayats of Al Amerat (Wadi Ada) and A’Seeb (Wadi Alkhodh) which are illustrated in the attached maps in Annex 1. The purpose of these zones is to develop water resources as well as protect them and public water supply well fields against pollution, over abstraction and intrusion of saline water. Activities and works should be carried out in accordance with the regulations given in the Annex (art. 2).
The Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources shall issue Decisions to form a Working Committee to carry out the necessary work to achieve the aims of determining the protected zones mentioned in article 1 (art. 4). This committee is to coordinate with all government parties and should take all necessary actions to remove any obstacles which may affect the safety of the groundwater and to fulfill the conditions of protecting water resources in the determined Regions. The committee may form sub-committees to carry out specific works. It should also raise a report to the Minister every four months.
