Abstract
This Act makes amendments in the Principal Act by inserting Part IIIA on registration of customary land; inserting new Section 34A on the appointment of Director of customary land registration; inserting new Section 34B on the powers and fuctions of Director of customary land registration; inserting new Section 34C on the duties and powers of the deputy Director; inserting new Section 34D as regards the application for registration; inserting new Section 34E on the verification of the membership of customary groups; inserting new Section 34F regarding the verification of the registered plan; inserting new Section 34G on the publication of registration plan; inserting new Section 34H on adjusted registration plan; inserting new Section 34I on objections to registration plan; inserting new Section 34J on final registration plan; inserting new Section 34K on registration of clan land; inserting new Section 34L on the issuance of certificate of title; inserting new Section 34M on the effect of registration; inserting new Section 34N regarding custom; inserting new Section 34O relating to land transactions; inserting new Section 34P on controlling land transactions; and inserting new Section 34Q as regards unlawful occupation of clan land.

An Act to amend the Land Registration Act (Chapter 191) to apply and give effect to the National Goals and Directive Principles of the Constitution as they relate and apply to ownership of lands held under customary tenure and dealings in those lands, and in particulars to - (a) allow development to take place primarily through the use of Incorporated Land Groups; and (b) encourage traditional villages and communities to remain as viable units of Papua New Guinea society, and for active steps to be taken to improve their culture, social economic and ethical quality; and (c) promote and facilitate the registration of land held under customary law.
