Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the National Agricultural Research Institute of Papua New Guinea as a body corporate and to define its objectives (sect. 3), functions (sect. 4) and powers (sect. 5) of the Institute. The governing body of the Institute shall be the Council established under section 6. The Institute shall identify, adapt and transfer agricultural technologies and information and provide technical services to improve welfare of rural families and communities who depend wholly or partly on agriculture for their livelihood and shall enhance the productivity, efficiency, stability and sustainability of the smallholder agriculture sector. The Council may establish committees under section 15 and shall prepare a corporate plan for the Institute under section 19. The Institute shall maintain a fund to be known as the National Agricultural Research institute Fund. Section 40 provides for intellectual property and patent rights of the Institute.
