Abstract
This Act provides for the preservation of national cultural property, i.e. any property, movable or immovable, of particular importance to the cultural heritage of the country.
The National Cultural Commission established under the National Cultural Commission Act 1994 shall be, in principal, the administrative agency for purposes of this Act but may delegate to a person all or any of its powers and functions under this Act. The Act provides for the compulsory acquisition of movable and immovable property. The purpose of this Act and of the preservation of and protection of national cultural property generally is a public purpose within the meaning of the Land Act 1996. The Commission shall maintain a register of all proclaimed cultural property.
