Abstract
This Act lays down provisions on the establishment and functions of the National Petroleum Authority and its Board; staff and funds of the Authority; and audits. The Authority has the following objectives: (a) to establish technical, financial and human resource capacity for effective and efficient promoting, monitoring and regulating of the petroleum industry and related activities in Papua New Guinea from upstream to downstream; and (b) to effectively and efficiently promote, monitor and regulate the full value chain of the oil and gas industry in Papua New Guinea, to derive maximum value from petroleum resources, discovered and yet to be discovered, and to contribute substantially to the country's socio-economic development in a safe and sustainable manner with minimal environmental and carbon footprint.
