Abstract
The National Social Protection Policy is a national policy with a multi-sectoral approach. The timeframe of the policy is 5 years between 2015 and 2020. The overall goal of this policy is to develop a national social protection system with the intention of enhancing wellbeing for vulnerable and disadvantaged people and progressively developing a social protection platform which can support all Papua New Guineans. An integrated community development approach will be applied for accommodating informal aspects in formal systems and generating appropriate responses to the needs of individuals, families and communities to build resilience, enhance capacities and transform people for self-reliance and enhancing livelihood. Furthermore, the different needs of women, men, girls and boys will be mainstreamed in all aspects of the development and implementation of the policy. The Social Safety Net will be carried out addressing more vulnerable target groups, including food assistance, school feeding programs or mother/child food supplementation programs, education and health services.
