Quarantine Act 1953.

This Act provides for measures for the inspection, exclusion, detention, observation, segregation, isolation, protection, treatment, sanitary regulation and disinfecting of persons, vessels, aircraft, vehicles, goods, things, animals or plants, having as their object the prevention of the introduction or spread of disease or pests affecting man, animals or plants
The Act consists of 101 sections divided into 9 Parts Preliminary (I); Special provisions in relation to diseases (II); Administration (III); General provision (IV); Quarantine of vessels, aircraft, vehicles, persons and goods (V); Quarantine of animals and plants (VI); Expenses of quarantine (VII); General offences (VIII); Miscellaneous (IX).
"Animal" here means a member of the animal kingdom, other than a human being, or a part or product of any such member and "plant" means a member of the vegetable kingdom or a part of any such member, whether living or dead. The Departmental Head is the Director of Quarantine and shall appoint be a Chief Quarantine Officer (General), a Chief Quarantine Officer (Plants) and a Chief Quarantine Officer (Animals) (sects. 6 and 7). The Minister may, by notice in the National Gazette declare a port in the country to be a port where imported animals or plants, or any particular kind of imported animals or plants, may be landed (sec.13). Director may, by notice in the National Gazette, prohibit or restrict the introduction into the country of a disease, noxious insect, pest, disease germ, microbe or disease agent, or any culture, virus, substance or article containing, or likely to contain, any disease, noxious insect, pest, disease germ, microbe or disease agent (sect. 14). Part VI provides rules for the landing of imported plants and animals, the quarantine inspections of such imported plants and animals and the destruction of diseased animals and plants.
