Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of Village Courts, defines their functions and jurisdiction and defines the relationship between village courts and other courts.
The Minister may, by Notice in the National Gazette, establish a Village Court in and for an area specified in the Notice. A Village Court shall be constituted by Village Magistrates. The Village Courts shall have a well-defined civil jurisdiction in respect of disputes regarding land. The Village Courts shall also have specified criminal jurisdiction.
