Abstract
This Order prohibits the use of artificial sweeteners in any food or drug intended for general use by human beings. In particular, cyclamates and artificially sweetened products, intended for human consumption in the dietary management, of disease in man, like diabetes and obesity, are classified as drugs and should be relabeled subject to the regulations promulgated under section 19(f) of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, if they are still on the market. As such, they should be available in drugstores only. Artificial sweeteners intended solely for drug use should have a specific labelling. The following artificial sweeteners are prohibited as additive in any food or drug: a) Dulcan (sucrol, valzin, p-phenotol carbamide, p-phenetylurea, 4-ethoxypeny­lurea; b) p-400 (5-Nitro-2n-Propxyaniline).
