Abstract
This AmBisyon Natin 2040 is a policy document at the national level covering the time frame of 2016-2040. The government’s Ambisyon Natin 2040 vision, which derives from a wide consultation conducted with the Filipino public in 2015, describes the kind of life the Filipino people aspire for themselves and for the country by 2040: a prosperous middle-class society free of poverty.
Achieving this long-term vision implies a tripling of per capita income by 2040. According to the AmBisyon Natin 2040, economic growth must be relevant, inclusive and sustainable. More than the increase in income, economic growth must progressively improve the quality of life of the majority of Filipinos. Priority sectors that have direct impact on AmBisyon are identified, including: Manufacturing (Food processing, housing related, construction-related, transport manufacturing, and other manufacturing), Agriculture (Food production, commercial and industrial crop, agricultural biotechnology, etc.), Housing and Urban Development, Connectivity (Roads and bridges, port, etc.), Education Services, Tourism and Allied Services, Health and Wellness Services, and Financial Services. The Document indicates that the Government must also ensure that economic growth is broad-based across sectors and regions; it must result in a more equal income distribution. Moreover, there should be aggressive interventions to increase opportunities for the poor to participate in the growth process even as they are protected against the negative impact of economic and political instabilities, natural and man-made calamities. In addition, ensuring the quality of health care and health-related products and the safety of other products is the responsibility of government as well.
