Presidential Decree No. 1160, s. 1977 - Vesting Authority in Barangay Captains to enforce pollution and environmental control laws and for other purposes.

At the time President of Philippines, order this decree by taking into account the increasing problems in pollution, danger to public health and safety and the disharmony between the men's economic need and the environmental conditions in Barangays. The Decree comprises of 7 Sections and provides provision on following issues: Deputizing the Barangay Captain, the Barangay Councilman and Barangay Zone Chairman as Peace Officers (1); Definition of national and local laws in light of rules and regulations governing pollution control and other activities which create imbalance in the ecology or disturbance in environmental conditions (2); Method of enforcement and implementation is defined along with criminal, civil and administrative aspects (3); Preferential disposition of cases by courts and prosecuting and administrative officials (4); The National Environmental Protection Council shall be in charge for enforcement of the Decree (5); Repealing clause (6); Effectivity.
