Abstract
This Act, consisting of 73 sections divided into eleven Chapters and one Schedule, provides for the formation, registration and regulation of cooperative societies for the promotion of thrift, self help and mutual assistance amongst agriculturist or other persons with common socio-economic interests, for achieving better standards of living and for related matters. This Act extends to the whole of the Province of West Pakistan, except the Tribal Areas. The Provincial Government may appoint a person to be Registrar of Co-operative Societies for the Province or any portion of it, and may appoint a person to assist such Registrar, and may, by general or special order, confer on any such person all or any of the powers of a Registrar under this Act. The Provincial Government by general or special order directs: a) the liability of a society of which a member is a society shall be limited; the liability of a society of which the majority of the members are agriculturists and of which no member is a registered society shall be unlimited. The Act is divided as follows: Registration (Chap. II); Rights and Liabilities of Members (Chap. III); Duties of Societies (Chap. IV); Privileges of Societies (Chap. V); Property and Funds of Societies (Chap. VI); Inspection of Affairs (Chap. VII); Liquidation and Arbitration (Chap. VIII).
