Abstract
This Act, consisting of 58 Sections, is enacted to provide for registration and effective protection of geographical indications.
Chapter II provides for the establishment of the Geographical Indications Registry. For the purposes of this Act, the concerned Division shall establish a Geographical Indications Registry under the management and control of IPO Pakistan. Chapter III provides for the registration of geographical indications. Chapter IV provides for the procedure for registration of registrant of GI. The Federal Government shall be the holder and exclusive owner of all the geographical indications of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Chapter V and VI make provisions for rights conferred by registration and infringement of geographical indications.
In addition, the Act makes provisions for offences and penalties.
