Abstract
The Gilgit-Baltistan Commission on the Status of Women Act, 2022, establishes a statutory Commission tasked with promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Commission is mandated to examine government policies, programs, and legislation affecting women's rights to recommend reforms aligned with the Gilgit-Baltistan Order, 2018, and international commitments. It monitors institutional mechanisms for redressal of women's grievances and social care, reviews departmental policies for gender responsiveness, and sponsors research to support evidence-based gender policy. The Commission fosters collaboration with NGOs, experts, and similar bodies across provinces, inspects custodial facilities for women, advocates for women's participation in all societal spheres, coordinates with national and provincial commissions, and holds powers to delegate duties, form sub-committees, and regulate under the Act. The Act consists of 21 Articles divided into V Chapters.
