Abstract
The amendment to Section 6 of the Gilgit-Baltistan Act, 2020 introduces a new sub-section restricting governmental authority over illegally extracted timber. It stipulates that, aside from scientifically based Working and Management Plans for Private and Protected Forests under Section 82, the Government cannot approve or implement any amnesty or disposal schemes for such timber. All unlawfully extracted timber from these forests must be seized, confiscated, and destroyed under official supervision. The destruction process shall be executed by a Divisional Forest Officer or higher, with prior approval from the Chief Conservator of Forests, and in the presence of a District Administration officer.
