Abstract
The Act was enacted to protect the population of Gilgit-Baltistan from iodine deficiency disorders through the compulsory iodization of all salt intended for human and animal consumption. It establishes provincial and national committees to regulate, monitor, and enforce standards for iodized salt production, packaging, labeling, and distribution in accordance with international and national quality benchmarks. The legislation prohibits the manufacture, sale, or distribution of non-iodized, adulterated, or misbranded salt and prescribes strict licensing, inspection, and quality assurance mechanisms. It mandates public awareness, health education campaigns, and the involvement of health workers to promote the use of iodized salt and prevent IDD-related health risks.
