Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of an Authority responsible for the equitable distribution of irrigation water, effective use of water resources, and maintenance of irrigation, drainage and flood control systems in the Province. The Act consists of 9 Chapters divided into 38 sections.
The North-West Frontier Province Irrigation and Drainage Authority shall be established as a body corporate in Peshawar (Chapter II). The overall control and guidance of the Authority shall be carried out by a Board of Management. Powers and duties of the Authority are outlined in Chapter III and include: formulation and implementation of water resource policies; operation and maintenance of irrigation, drainage, storage reservoirs and flood control infrastructures; maintenance of records and registers; the carrying out of research and development. There shall be an Authority Fund vested in the Authority as provided for in Chapter V. Chapter VI provides for the establishment and operation of Area Water Boards which shall carry out functions on behalf of the Authority and be controlled and directed by it (Chapter VII). The remaining Chapters contain provisions on the submission of yearly reports and statements to the government and provisions of miscellaneous nature.
