Abstract
This Act, consisting of 33 sections, provides for the systematic growth and transformation of the marketing of agricultural produce. The Government establishes the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Authority, as a body corporate, having perpetual succession with power to acquire or dispose of its property, and may sue or be sued. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Authority, entitled to perform the following functions: a) prescribe standards for specific agricultural produces; b) prescribe good agricultural practices, geographical origin of an agriculture produce or particular farming method for an agricultural produce; c) prescribe fees for registration of an agricultural produce market, collection center, virtual market and a service provider; d) promote alternative marketing channels and contract farming; e) enforce the adoption of a fair system of auction of an agricultural produce in line with the best regional and international practices; g) control marketing practices; h) provide market information services, model contract farming templates and undertake surveys of marketing for agricultural produce; i) undertake research and publications in agricultural produce marketing; etc.

The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in the Punjab Agricultural Produce Market Ordinance, 1978 (XXIII of 1978).
