Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the Punjab Food Authority and defines its composition and its powers and functions.
The Authority shall: regulate and monitor the food business in order to ensure provisions of safe food; formulate standards, procedures, processes and guidelines in relation to any aspect of food including food business, food labelling, food additives, and specify appropriate enforcement systems; specify procedures and guidelines for the setting up and accreditation of food laboratories; formulate methods of sampling, analysis of samples and reporting of results; specify licensing, prohibition orders, recall procedures, improvement notices or prosecution; certify food for export; etc.
The Act further provides for: provides for licensing procedures for setting up food businesses; establishment of food laboratories; food poisoning; offences and penalties; establishment of the Food Authority Fund; etc.
