Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to provide regulations of livestock breeding services, to improve genetic potential of breeds and to protect indigenous breeds of livestock in the Punjab. The Government shall establish a Livestock Breeding Services Authority which will have the task of regulating provisions of breeding services, raise awareness regarding standards and quality of breeding services; and to maintain and develop local genetic resources. The Authority shall implement such tasks through the Livestock Breeding Services Authority Fund. Standards and procedures of breeding are listed under articles 8-14. Registration and prohibition regulations concerning breeding shall be enforced by issuance certification validating compliance of required criteria for the establishment of breeding facilities and personnel (art. 20-27). Inspection of compliance shall be carried out by analysts and experts appointed by the Government (art. 28-31). Violation of this Act shall be punishable with imprisonment of a maximum of one year and/or with fines up to 500 Rupees (art.32).
