Abstract
This Act provides for the speedy reclamation and improvement of waterlogged and saline areas and the prevention of damage to maximise agriculture production.
The Act’s main objectives are to: control operations of tube wells; regulate groundwater supplies; increase revenues; etc.
The Act further provides for the establishment of the Punjab Land and Water Development Board and defines its internal organization. The Board shall carry out surveys for schemes including afforestation and area treatment, execute works and incur any expenditure for the improvement, reclamation and lowering of the water table in the subsoil.
In addition the Act provides for: acquisition of land for the purpose of reclamation; abandonment of acquisition; reclamation fees; establishment of a Board Fund; rule and bylaw making powers of the Government; penalties; etc.
