Abstract
The Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997 establishes the legal and institutional framework for the regulation of Pakistan’s electric power sector. It provides for the creation of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), tasked with issuing licenses for generation, transmission, and distribution activities, determining tariffs, ensuring fair competition, and protecting consumer interests. The Act aims to promote the availability of reliable, safe, and affordable electricity while encouraging private sector participation and investment. It grants NEPRA powers to regulate market behavior, set technical standards, and enforce compliance. The Act consists of 51 Articles divided into 4 Chapters.
