Abstract
The Rules provide for the institution of a Federal Seed Registration Committee that shall assess potential registration of plant and crop varieties. Application for registration shall be addressed to the National Registration Agency that shall grant a registration certificate if the variety complies with being new ( never sold or otherwise traded or used with or without the Breeder’s consent), distinct (recognizable from a comparison variety as per its genotype or mix of genotypes), uniform ( maintaining its characteristics in respect of a comparison variety for both specie and genotype);and stable (preserving these very same features in every repeated propagation cycle). The new variety shall be indicated with a denomination that shall be reported in the registration application and anyway it shall identify the variety therefore. The Certificate shall cover 10 years, with a further extension of other five. Lists of new varieties shall be regularly published. In Schedule 1 are reported the “crops eligible for variety registration”.
