Abstract
This National Action Plan (NAP) to Reduce the Risk Associated with the Use of Plant Protection Products 2018-2022 is a cross-sectoral policy document. The main objectives of the National Action Plan are as follows: 1) dissemination of the general principles of IPM; 2) prevention of risks associated with the use of PPPs.
The NAP seeks to make agriculture more sustainable. Proposed actions include: Training in the area of plant protection products; Reducing the risks associated with the sale of plant protection products; Measures to protect the aquatic environment and drinking water; Analysis of risks associated with the use of PPPs; etc. The training will address the following areas: 1) protection of pollinating insects during the application of PPPs; 2) protection of the aquatic environment during the application of PPPs; 3) elimination of risks associated with trade in counterfeit PPPs; 4) working order of pesticide application equipment and benefits produced by regular inspection of such equipment. The actions aimed at reducing the risks associated with dealing in PPPs will focus on eliminating the sale of PPPs to unauthorised persons and the distribution of counterfeit or unauthorised products.
The NAP seeks to contribute to more inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems. Proposed tasks include: Promoting good practices for safe use of PPPs; Monitoring of surface waters and groundwater and of bottom sediments; Conducting monitoring of water intended for human consumption; Dissemination of knowledge in the field of integrated pest management; Maintaining an Internet platform dedicated to integrated pest management; Preparation, updating and dissemination of integrated pest management methodologies for individual crops; Dissemination of the results of the assessment carried out within the framework of Post-Registration Variety Testing; Providing advice in plant protection; Providing effective supervision of marketing and use of PPPs; Optimisation of the protection of minor and organic crops; etc.
