Abstract
The Statute of the Arab Federation of Nature Reserves consisting of 18 articles divided in XII Chapters establishes at Riyadh an institution aiming at developing an integrated regional Arab perspective of nature reserves, based on the traditional distinctive heritage of the region, environmental and socio-economic characteristics, in order to achieve sustainable development. Main tasks of the federation are: conserve the biodiversity in the Arab world habitats through the establishment of nature reserves; encourage the establishment of joint reserves; increase and exchange knowledge in the field of natural reserves management and utilization; promote awareness, communication and environmental education efforts; encourage and involve civil society organizations to create and manage protected areas; promote studies and research related to the development of nature reserves; establish an Arab network of nature reserves to raise the level of Arab action to regional and international working-level; provide technical support and advice in the preparation of management plans; and focus on investment and sustainable partnerships for the development of natural resources, eco-tourism, grazing, economic and social projects, sustainable fishing and sustainable timber cutting.
Organs of the Federation are: the General Assembly, with political responsibilities, the Board of Directors, the executive body, and the General Secretariat. The Statute deals also with procedural and financial matters.
