Abstract
This Environment Sector Strategy for the period 2014 - 2016 is a nationwide sectoral document focused on 4 key issues, which are (i) less polluted environment; (ii) sustainable management of the natural environment and cultural heritage; (iii) requirements for adaptation and mitigation of climate change, desertification and natural disasters; (iv) the environmental sector governed in an integrated manner and aligned with international standards.
To increase the resilience of livelihoods to disasters, the Strategy aims to (i) improve solid, liquid, and hazardous waste management; (ii) rehabilitate and manage nature reserves and coasts; (iii) organize the exploitation of natural resources, in particular, renewables; (iv) enhance the ability to intervene in emergency situations and in the event of natural disasters; (v) strengthen adaptation measures to climate change; () combat desertification; (vi) treat wastewater according to the approved environmental standards.
As for Governance, the goal of the development of the environmental sector will be achieved through improved environmental governance, the creation of an institutional and legal environment suitable for the development of the sector, increasing public and institutional awareness and knowledge, and validating the role of Palestine in international agreements and treaties.
