Abstract
This is a nationwide sectoral document aiming at generating interest in the impact of dietary practices on nutrition, national development, and health. The document is in line with the strategies developed on these issues by international organizations such as WHO and UNICEF. The overall goal of the Strategy is to improve nutrition, development, and health through optimum nutrition to ensure the survival of infants and young children in the best possible state of health. The specific goals to be achieved through this document are (i) strengthening the commitment of Government, civil and private institutions and other concerned stakeholders to provide optimum nutrition practices for infants and children; (ii) creating an environment permitting mothers and other caregivers to make informed nutritional choices; (iii) increase awareness on food-related problems and define solutions and necessary interventions. The document regard to young child feeding proposes to (i) encourage an adequate nutrition; and (ii) gives alternative solutions; (iii) examines the nutrition status in exceptional conditions; (iv) proposes an enhancement of nutrition standards.
