Abstract
This Decree-Law, consisting of 88 articles divided into seven Chapters and two Annexes, establishes the legal framework for planning and sustainable management of aquatic resources in inland waters. It regulates fishing activity within those waters and aquaculture practiced in State aquaculture infrastructures, in aquaculture units or the exploitation of aquaculture species in captivity with non-commercial purposes, namely ornamental, didactic, technical or scientific purposes and for self-consumption. The scheme provided for in this Decree-Law is without prejudice to the applicability of the specific rules contained in the fisheries regulations on sections of international rivers. It applies to all surface, public or private waters in the continental territory, as defined in Law No. 7/2008 of 15 February, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 221/2015 of 8 October. The Decree-Law is divided as follows: General provisions (Chap. I); Protection and conservation of aquaculture resources (Chap. II); Aquaculture resource management (Chap. III); Fishing exercise (Chap. IV); Aquaculture and aquatic species detention in captivity (Chap. V); Sanctioning regime (Chap. VI); Transitional and final provisions (Chap. VII).
