Decree-Law No. 174/94 regulating emergency communications of the maritime mobile service.

This Decree-Law establishes the new system of radio-communication called "Global Maritime Distress and Safety Program (GMDSS)" (for national and foreign vessels) which must be applied before the 1st of February 1999. It consists of 32 articles specifying the requirements to be satisfied by all vessels navigating in waters under portuguese jurisdiction and out of these waters by national vessels. It also establishes provisions for maritime infrastructures and personnel as well as sanctions to be paid by offenders.
