Decree-Law No. 180/2004 transposing into national legislation EU Directive 2002/59/EC of 27 June 2002 on Community vessel traffic monitoring and information system.

This Decree-Law transposes into national law Directive 2002/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 June 2002 establishing a Community vessel traffic monitoring and information system. Rules are laid down on the establishment, on national territory, of a vessel traffic monitoring and information system with a view to increasing the safety and efficiency of maritime traffic, improving the authorities' response to incidents, accidents or potentially dangerous situations at sea, including transport of dangerous and hazardous substances, search and rescue operations, and contributing to better prevention and detection of pollution caused by ships. This Decree-law applies to ships with a gross tonnage of 300 tonnes or more.
