Abstract
This Decree-Law consists of a preamble and twelve articles. The preamble explains the reasons for its adoption. Fire prevention and control are major priorities of the Government's forestry policy. Following fires, the timber from the affected areas is frequently sold off at very low prices. At the same time, the reduction in forested areas leads to a reduction in supplies of raw materials to local wood using and pulp industries, and an ensuring supply crisis is likely. A greater degree of State intervention in this sector is therefore necessary. Exports of pine roundwood and chips are subject to authorization. Unless previously exempted by the Forests Department, the sale of sound timber from burnt-over forests is prohibited. Procedures for the granting of such authorizations and derogations are laid down, as well as those for establishing minimum prices for wood supplied to local industries. Penalties for offences are also defined.
